Quotients and Remainders

Quotients and Remainders Exercise

To put it simply, the Quotient is the whole number of times one number goes into another number. For example, $8 \div 4$ has a quotient of $2$ because $4$ "goes into" $8$ two whole times.

Some More Examples

$23 \div 5$

Quotient $=4$

$\frac{39}{20}$

Quotient $=1$

$-15 \div 9$

Quotient $=-2$

This one is a little weird. The reason why it's $-2$ is because $-2 \times 9 = -18$, and $-18 < -15$. When you multiply the divisor by the quotient, the result has to either be less than or equal the number being divided.
